Listening to the voice of the clay, I strive for a happy accident. Functionality is a mere by-product of form. I am interested in exploring the haptic qualities of ceramic objects. Everything has the potential to mark the surface of my clay: carpet underlay, tea towels, lace, burlap, tree bark, the sole of a shoe. These surfaces then become a canvas for my glaze experiments. My artistic practice is a form of perpetual learning in which accident, risk and surprise are my greatest teachers. A failed ceramic object contains an abundance of information about materials, form, technique and process.
